From Armed Forces to Allegra: Local Business Owner Continues His Service Helping Fellow Veterans Grow Their Small Businesses
Release Date: 12/6/2017
Following a military career spanning more than 23 years, Glenn Read, owner of Allegra Marketing Print Mail in Schenectady, N.Y., remains just as committed to his fellow servicemen and servicewomen at home as he did when overseas.
Pairing his passion for entrepreneurship with the skills and life experiences gained throughout his military career, Read's latest chapter as an Allegra franchise owner is opening more opportunities to serve his local business and veteran communities than he imagined possible.
A member of the United States Army, Army Reserves and National Guard, Read returned in 2012 from active duty deployment to Kuwait, having previously served a deployment in Iraq in 2006-2007. The Albany, N.Y., native experienced common challenges faced by military veterans when reestablishing civilian life and reconnecting with home and community.
Service-disabled, it was through that difficult transition that Read realized what would be essential in his next career step: to control his own destiny. He also sought a career path that would afford him opportunities to help other veterans struggling with their own adjustments to returning home.
Research into career opportunities that would best allow him to serve fellow veterans as well as give back to other charitable organizations in the Greater Capital area yielded a natural fit: franchise ownership.
"The Allegra franchise model provides the level of flexibility and proven profitability I need," said Read. Franchise ownership under Allegra's proven model of graphic design, printing, mailing, promotional products and marketing services was the perfect fit for him to help empower and market other local veteran-owned and -operated businesses.
"I knew that to be truly happy, I needed something that allowed me to do outreach and provide support to other veterans in my community, as well as my day-to-day job duties," said Read.
In addition to Allegra's proven franchise model, Read credits his business' transition and success to the franchise's parent company, Alliance Franchise Brands LLC, its support staff, leadership team, and verified programs and processes.
"When I first took ownership of my center, the franchise's leadership team helped me develop an action plan and pull all the pieces together," said Read. "Today, I operate my business and lead various veteran support initiatives. I'm also helping other local veterans market and grow their small businesses through our center's services."
Read is focused on expanding the breadth of his marketing and print communications services that drive measurable results for small to mid-sized businesses and nonprofits who are looking to grow. He has set his own aggressive goals through customer growth and retention as well as potential business acquisitions.
What's next on the horizon? To further give back to his community, Read is developing an educational seminar on business marketing targeted to military veterans.
